MAIN TOPIC: What helps REVIVE running?
What happens when we lose ourselves to running only to get injured or fall short of our goals? We need handles to help us revive from dark times in life and sport. We talk to professional runner (and running philosopher Zach likes to say) Kendra Chambers about identity and running. Kendra peels back the layers of how to revive running when life gets us down.
Kendra gives practical application of this very important topic. She discusses the elements of her life that need attention and balance in order for her to maintain her health and perspective. This leads to satisfaction in her work and unwavering focus on the process.
About our guest: Kendra Chambers
Professional Runner, Middle Distance Specialist
As Zach will tell you on the episode, Kendra Chambers could be called a running philosopher. Her clarity in articulating deep and sometimes elusive concepts, brings actionable ideas to the topic of running revival. This perspective comes from the very top of our sport. Kendra Chambers runs the 400m to the 800m at a world class level. Kendra represented Team USA in at the World Championships as part of the 4x800m relay and at the Indoor World Championships in the 4x400m relay. She found early success in high school where she was the Texas State Champion and in college as an 8-time All-American at the University of Texas at Austin.
Kendra recently announced that in addition to professional running she has accepted a position as the Administrative Associate in the African and African Diaspora Studies Department at The University of Texas at Austin.
Quote read during the episode:
“To be an athlete you do what you do for a specific reason. For me that reason is to: consistently become my best. Never placing my worth in the world’s hands. Never placing my worth into my current limitations or past achievements. Never allowing myself to believe that I am any less of a person with or without a validation, rewards or results. I do this because I enjoy the process more than the prize.” – Kendra Chambers
Kendra Sport’s Psychologist mentioned in the episode, Dr. Julie L. Wiernik.
