  • “if I’m in a phase of training where I’m just building easy base miles….and don’t need to preserve myself for hard workout days…It’s OK to raise the floor a bit on my basic easy mileage pace, right?”
    • The point isn’t necessarily preserving yourself
    • If you’re just running easy base miles, the better solution is to run longer, not faster
    • Goal = base (aerobic) and solution = best way to grow that is in more easy miles (know your limits)
    • Still maintain variety (shorter and faster, longer and slower, with neuromuscular)

Carmel Marathon

Congrats to Nikki and Andrew at Carmel. Nikki ran a 9 minute PR and Boston Qualifier and Andrew a 10 minute PR and Boston Qualifier. 

We asked each of them to share one thing they did in prep for this race that was different from previous training cycles and made a difference (and by the way, we did NOT ask them to plug us or have our support be that one thing… just making sure you know that this is not intended to be a contrived self-promotion!) April 4th, Istanbul, Turkey (Runnersworld)
N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon

• Ruth Chepnegetich Half Marathon Record
• 4:53 per mile 
• 5,000-meter world champion Helen Obiri finished third in 1:04:51, the fastest 13.1 debut in history. 
• According to World Athletics, Sunday’s race is the first time three women have run under 65 minutes in one half marathon.
• Kibiwott Kandie, the current men’s half marathon record holder, won the men’s race, setting a new course record with his 59:35 finish.

April 3rd, Box Hill Classic
Linden Hall 1500 Breaks Australian Record (Nine.com)

• Australian 1500m record of 3:59.67

April 3rd, Barrowford, England (BBC)

• Scotland’s Beth Potter ran 14:41 for an unofficial world record 5k road race
• *second fastest road 5k, but the official record has only been kept since 2018… 
• “Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei has ever run faster – recording 14:32 during a 10km race in Prague in 2017”
• May not be ratified, though (some rules factors for world records were not present)
• Drug testing, lap size, etc.
• And it seems to be relevant to many sources that she was wearing Asics new shoe – their carbon super shoe (video if you want to watch)
